So a little known comic book character, the god of thunder, Thor, wielding a divine hammer got his own movie. Only that it’s a very lame attempt at depicting a Norse mythology story for the moviegoers’ eyes. I was never really a fan of the comic and won’t be a new one anytime soon (or ever).
For one, I’ve totally got tired of ‘banished hero learns his lesson and kicked some ass’ formula most blockbuster movies have these days. The actors’ attempt at archaic language failed miserably and the only redeeming factors, it seems, are the quality of visual effects and the notable performance of Tom Hiddleston as the villain brother, Loki.
Don’t mind the colossal earnings and excitable people lining the theaters who will emerge as Thor converts afterwards. Not because everyone flocked the cinemas and thinks it’s ‘the bomb’ does not mean it’s worth your time. Or have you forgotten Iron Man franchise already?
I am thoroughly disappointed that the movie industry seems to be running out of decent ideas to put into screens that they have turned to comic books and novels for adaptations (that came out really bad, by the way).
You know, I’m not usually a critic who cares for acting and stuff but it was so bland I just have to mention it. I cannot possibly enjoy a movie when I’m constantly reminded of how trashy are the actors’ performances.
Perhaps the only major selling points of this completely boring movie is the attractive lead character or maybe it’s the ‘huge’ fanbase of the Marvel story that watched it at least twice — in 3D. At least when you know your plot’s quite thin, put in some wit to make it entertaining for the rest of us, please.
And I keep hearing of this ‘glorious sense of humor’ the film has. Where was it exactly? Are you kidding me? The whole story is practically dragging, man.

It is the state flower of four US states: Iowa and North Dakota, Georgia, and New York. Portlant, Oregon counts “City of Roses” among its nicknames, and holds an annual Rose Festival.
Roses are occasionally the basis of design for rose window, such windows comprising five or ten segments (the five petals and five sepals of a rose) or multiples thereof; however most Gothic rose windows are much more elaborate and were probably based originally on the wheel and other symbolism.
A red rose (often held in a hand) is a symbol of socialism or social democracy; it is also used as a symbol by the British and Irish Labor Parties, as well as by the French, Spanish (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party), Portuguese, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Brazilian, Dutch and European socialist or social democratic parties. This originated when the red rose was used as a badge by the marchers in the May 1968 street protests in Paris.
The White Rose was a World War II non violent resistance group in Germany.
The rose has always been valued for its beauty and has a long history of symbolism. The ancient Greeks and Romans identified the rose with their goddesses of love referred to as Aphrodite and Venus.
In Rome a wild rose would be placed on the door of a room where secret or confidential matters were discussed. The phrase “sub rosa”, or “under the rose”, means to keep a secret – derived from this ancient Roman practice.
Early Christians identified the five petals of the rose with the five wounds of Christ. Despite this interpretation, their leaders were hesitant to adopt it because of its association with Roman excesses and pagan ritual.
The red rose was eventually adopted as a symbol of the blood of the Christian martyrs.
There are currently thousands of varieties of roses developed for bloom shape, size, and fragrance and even for lack of prickles.
Oak
The oak is a common symbol of strength and endurance.
It has been chosen as the national tree of England, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the United States, Basque Country, Wales and Serbia.
Iowa has designated the oak as its official state tree in 1961, and the White Oak is the state tree of Connecticut, Illinois and Maryland.
The Northern Red Oak is the provincial tree of Prince Edward Island, as well as the state tree of New Jersey.
The oak is the emblem of County Londonderry in Northern Ireland, as a vast amount of the county was covered in forests of the tree until relatively recently. The name of the county comes from the city of Derry, which originally in Irish was known as “Doire” meaning oak.
Switzerland’s 10 Rappen, and 1/2, 1, 2, and 5 Franc coins, and Germany’s 1, 2, 5, 10, and 50 Pfennig, 1 Mark, and 1, 2, and 5 Euro Cent coins had or have Oak leaves on them.
Oak leaves symbolize rank in the United States Armed Forces. A gold oak leaf indicates an O-4 (Major or Lt. Commander), whereas a silver oak leaf indicates an O-5 (Lt. Colonel or Commander).
Arrangements of oak leaves, acorns and sprigs indicate different branches of the United States Navy Staff corps officers.
Oak leaves were added to the Nazi honor, the Knight’s Cross for added status.
The oak tree is one of the symbols of the Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity. The tree is also the symbol of the University of Toronto, which is featured as the crest of the University’s coat of arms.
It is the symbol of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, and formerly of the Progressive Democrats in Ireland.
The oak leaf is the symbol of the National Tryst (UK) and The Royal Oak Foundation.
In Celtic mythology it is the tree of doors, believed to be a gateway between worlds, or a place where portals could be erected.
In Norse mythology, the oak was sacred to the thunder god, Thor. Some scholars speculate that this is because the oak, as the largest tree in northern Europe, was the one most often struck by lightning. Thor’s Oak was a sacred tree of the Germanic Chatti tribe. Its destruction marked the Christianization of the heathen tribes by the Franks.
In Classical mythology the oak was a symbol of Zeus and his sacred tree. An example is the oracle of Dodona, which in prehistory consisted solely of a holy oak.
The Oak tree is traditionally sacred to Serbs and is widely used throughout Serbia on national and regional symbols both old and new.
In the Bible, the oak tree at Shechem is the site where Jacob buries the foreign gods of his people (Gen. 35:4). In addition, Joshua erects a stone under an oak tree as the first covenant of the Lord (Josh. 24.25-7).
Several individual oak trees, such as the Royal Oak in Britain and the Charter Oak in the United States, are of great historical or cultural importance.
“Ambrosian Oaks” set to the Finlandia Hymn is the school song of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.
There is a proverb, “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” Another is: “Every majestic oak tree was once a nut that stood his ground.”
Many woods are connected to certain birth months, according to the Irish, and oak is the wood of June/July. In some variations, however, rosewood has been known to be June’s wood.
Oakland, California. The area was called “encinal” by the original Spanish colonizers, a word which means “oak grove,” and the origin of the city’s name. It was so dubbed, because of a large stand of oak forest that differentiated it from the surrounding region.
Raleigh, North California has been nicknamed the “City of Oaks.”
Sevenoaks is a village in Kent, England, named for the seven large Oak trees that once dominated the area.
The Romania national rugby union team is nicknamed “The Oaks”.
Thousand Oaks, California. Named for the many Oak trees that adorn the area, the city seal bears an Oak.
Paso Robles, “El Paso de los Robles” (English translation: oak pass) California.
Peru State College is nicknamed the “Campus of a Thousand Oaks.”
The bark of Quercus suber, or Cork oak, is used to produce wine stoppers (corks).
Barrels in which red wines, sherry, brandy and spirits such as Scotch whisky and Bourbon whiskey are aged are made from European and American oak
The bark of the White Oak is dried and used in medical preparations. Oak bark is also rich in tannin, and is used by tanners for tanning leather.
Acorns are used for making flour or roasted for acorn coffee.
Japanese oak is used in the making of professional drums from manufacturer Yamaha Drums. These are just few of the many uses of oaks.

Ranking The New Units in Starcraft 2
Starcraft 2 features a bunch of new units and some are more fun to use than others; here are my picks for the most entertaining ones to use in the new game from Blizzard.
Going by race, these are my picks:
For Zerg: Banelings
The new baneling morph for Zerglings in Starcraft 2 is an extremely fun unit to use because of its unpredictability and high damage potential.
Plus, the fear it can instill in opponents is priceless. Banelings can “bust” past a Terran wall configurement or take out big groups of marines with ease as their suicide acid attack.
Get the speed upgrade and watch them roll, then send them at buildings and troops in waves.
For Protoss: Void Rays
Okay, so they’re kind of cheap in some peoples’ books and they are very tough to stop. Many people are searching for tips on how to stop mass void rays and for good reason as everyone uses them in the lower levels of the game. They are easily one of the most fun new units to use in Starcraft 2 with their ability to decimate a whole base in a matter of a few minutes when charged.
For Terran: Thors
The giant walking mechs are not as speedy and versatile as Goliaths from SC: Brood War but they pack a punch and they dominate air units. Mutalisks can get them with the new “magic box” technique to minimize losses but Thors still beat them in most cases.
And they dominate on the ground in large numbers with SCV’s repairing them making them fun to rush with. Or you can drop them, pick them up, and run and re-drop with a Medivac.
